"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration prohibited some unapproved uses of antibiotics in livestock on Wednesday.
Farmers will no longer be able to administer a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins to cattle, pigs, chicken and turkeys in unapproved doses or frequencies, or as a means of preventing disease, the agency said."
I recently found a way to lose weight, reduce my cholesterol and stabilised my PSA (marker for prostate cancer). My aim is to inform you, not to tell you how to live your life. Once you have the information it is up to you to make an informed decision. I have been a vegetarian for many years. The problem was I was still consuming Dairy which is really liquid meat. I was also consuming too much sugar and salt.

Burzynski, the Movie
"Burzynski, the Movie is the story of a medical doctor and Ph.D biochemist named Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski who won the largest, and possibly the most convoluted and intriguing legal battle against the Food & Drug Administration in American history.
His victorious battles with the United States government were centered around Dr. Burzynski's gene-targeted cancer medicines he discovered in the 1970's called Antineoplastons, which have currently completed Phase II FDA-supervised clinical trials in 2009 and could begin the final phase of FDA testing in 2011–barring the ability to raise the required $300 million to fund the final phase of FDA clinical trials.
When Antineoplastons are approved, it will mark the first time in history a single scientist, not a pharmaceutical company, will hold the exclusive patent and distribution rights on a paradigm-shifting medical breakthrough.
Antineoplastons are responsible for curing some of the most incurable forms of terminal cancer. Various cancer survivors are presented in the film who chose these medicines instead of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation - with full disclosure of medical records to support their diagnosis and recovery - as well as systematic (non-anecdotal) FDA-supervised clinical trial data comparing Antineoplastons to other available treatments—which is published within the peer-reviewed medical literature.
One form of cancer - diffuse, intrinsic, childhood brainstem glioma has never before been cured in any scientifically controlled clinical trial in the history of medicine. Antineoplastons hold the first cures in history - dozens of them. [ANP - PubMed 2003] [ANP - PubMed 2006] [ANP - Cancer Therapy 2007] [Rad & other - PubMed 2008] [Chemo/Rad - PubMed 2005]
This documentary takes the audience through the treacherous, yet victorious, 14-year journey both Dr. Burzynski and his patients have had to endure in order to obtain FDA-approved clinical trials of Antineoplastons."

Bone health in children
"Parents have been taught that they should provide calcium in their children’s diet by offering them cow’s milk and other dairy products. It is not uncommon to encounter pre-pubertal youngsters consuming 40 – 60 ounces of cow’s milk daily and much more than that in teenagers, often with cheese in the daily diet as well. What parents do not know is that the detrimental effects of all that milk and cheese far outweigh any benefit. These negative effects include not only significant obesity but protein, sodium, and phosphate loading. The result of this high dietary protein, phosphate, and sodium is calcium wasting with osteopenia, and later life osteoporosis. Urinary tract complications are also common and include uricosuria and hypercalciuria with renal stones and bladder dysfunction.
I encourage my patients’ parents to aim for plant-based sources of calcium in their children’s diets and to increase their children’s physical activity. Although there is now a push to increase physical activity for obesity prevention, physicans and parents often are not knowledgeable about the important relationship between weight-bearing exercise and building strong bones in children. This is becoming more frequently recognized in the geriatric population.
Lanou’s (Amy Joy Lanou (alanou@unca.edu), assistant professor) assessment of the scientific evidence behind what really builds strong bones (http://www.bmj.com/content/333/7572/763) is helping to dispel the myth behind our unnecessarily high dairy recommendations. More widespread awareness of this evidence will help build a new paradigm in which we can keep children healthy, fit, and strong for life. Exercise, avoidance of animal protein, combined with adequate vitamin D and calcium intake from plant-based sources will do more for our children’s bones than pushing extra milk or calcium supplements."

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead - A Joe Cross Film
Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead - A great name for a documentary. Joe is an Australian who travels to the USA for work. He was obese and suffering from Urticaria which makes him allergic to many things. There is no cure. Well, there was no cure. Joe travelled for 60days across the USA talking to people and consuming only fresh fruit and vegetable juice which he made himself. At the end of the 60days he was no longer obese, felt great and was cured of Urticaria. He inspired many other people to try juicing and they all had positive results. I have heard about the benefits of juicing from other sources and I think this has tipped me over into wanting to try it!

On Nutrition: Reasons to have a cup of tea
BY
BARBARA QUINN, THE MONTEREY COUNTY HERALD JANUARY
13, 2012
"There
is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of
tea," wrote Bernard-Paul Heroux. (http://www.quotegarden.com/tea.html)
What
is it about a cup of hot tea that is so...soothing? I happen to think it’s the
warmth that emanates from pretty tea cups. But scientists credit a host of
naturally-occurring compounds in tea with beneficial health effects. All
tea comes from the same plant: Camellia sinensis. And over the centuries as
this plant grew in the sun, says the USDA Agricultural Research Service, it
formed chemicals called "polyphenols" to protect it from the
elements. Polyphenols are family to "flavonoids" — health-promoting
antioxidant substances found in many fruits and vegetables.

Doctors Report Rise in Obesity-Related Cancers in US
January 07, 2012
Carol Pearson | Washington
"The American Cancer
Society says in its annual report that fewer Americans are dying of cancer, but
doctors are seeing more patients with cancers linked to obesity, including
pancreatic and kidney cancers. And while breast cancer patients are living longer,
the risks of developing this type of tumor are rising along with the growing
rates of obesity."

The really sad part of this story is that it took so long for the FDA to act. Their unwillingness to act is a symptom of the influence the Food Industry has over the FDA.

Infant Feeding Practices and Their Possible Relationship to the Etiology of Diabetes Mellitus
- American Academy of Pediatrics
Work Group on Cow's Milk Protein and Diabetes Mellitus
ABSTRACT
1. Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus develops within a group of individuals who carry specific diabetes susceptibility traits. Because all of the potential diabetes "susceptibility genes" are not known, currently it is not possible to identify all individuals at risk. It appears, however, that a small percentage of such individuals will ever develop clinical diabetes mellitus.
2. The autoimmune destructive process may be triggered by a number of environmental events.
3. Early exposure of infants to cow's milk protein may be an important factor in the initiation of the β cell destructive process in some individuals. It is not known whether the cow's milk protein in commercially available infant formulas is associated with this process.
4. The avoidance of cow's milk protein for the first several months of life may reduce the later development of IDDM or delay its onset in susceptible individuals.
5. Research directed toward further defining the possible relationship between infant feeding practices and the development of IDDM is needed.

The Mainstreaming of Vegan Diets
Once the purview of a small group of devotees, more people -- including nutritionists -- are embracing plant-based eating plans
December 27, 2011
By Dennis Thompson
HealthDay Reporter
HealthDay Reporter
TUESDAY, Dec. 27 (HealthDay News) -- Vegan diets are considered by some to be extreme, a strict way of eating that exists on the radical fringes of vegetarianism.
But today, a growing number of people are giving vegan diets a second look, and nutritionists now believe that a well-thought-out vegan eating plan could be the most healthy way to live for most people.

Giving babies salty food may create a
lifelong preference
Diets including crackers, cereals and other high-sodium solid
foods are linked to a greater fondness for salt, a study finds.

Feeding young babies solid foods such as crackers, cereals and
bread, which tend to be high in salt, may set them up for a lifelong preference
for salt, researchers reported Tuesday.
The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggests that efforts to reduce salt intake among Americans should begin early in life.

Nutrition a key element in fighting autoimmune diseases
"The same diet recommended for the prevention of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic illness--one rich in plants and low in animal fats and highly-processed foods--is the same one recommended to reduce the risk of autoimmune disease and manage an existing one. Look to foods that help prevent oxidation and inflammation."

Stroke Risk Driven By Diet Quality And Overeating, Rather Than Individual Nutrients
"A review published in the special strokeissue of The Lancet Neurology says that many of the numerous studies on stroke prevention have been based on unreliable evidence. The same applies to headlines that have highlighted potential benefits of specific nutrients and foods. According to researchers, the risk of stroke is more likely to be predicted by dietary patterns and excess energy intake, i.e. overeating."

Just Released Diet Guidelines
Below is the just released Diet Guidelines for Australians. A variety of vegetables, fruit and whole grains are on the increase. Unfortunately, they also recommend an increase in the consumption of dairy. I will have to speak with them about that one!
So meat, salty and sweet things are on the decline as are saturated fat and trans fats. At last the demonisation of fat is on the decline! We need good fats to be healthy and they come from plants (avocado, nuts and seeds etc). Fat, per se, does not make you fat. It depends on the type of fat.
There is also the recognition that diet affects obesity and chronic disease.
"Based on the evidence reviewed, key recommendations of the Guidelines include:
People should eat a variety of nutritious food; advice that has not changed over many years, but is now reinforced with stronger scientific evidence.
Most Australians need to increase our intake of vegetables, fruit, whole grain cereal foods, and milk products- particularly reduced fat varieties.
Some population groups need to eat more of some food groups and less of others. For example, some women who consume an omnivore diet may benefit from eating more red meat, while some adult males may need to reduce their consumption.
Most Australians may benefit from reducing excessive intake of energy-dense nutrient-poor foods and drinks which are high in saturated fat, salt and added sugar, particularly sugar sweetened drinks, if we are to tackle obesity and diet-related chronic disease"

“The China Study” (book) and “Forks over Knives” (dvd and book)
The China Study shows us that people who consume a lot of animal protein suffer from chronic diseases later in life. Those who consume mainly plant protein do not. A wide variety of whole plants provide us with all the nutrients we need except for one. Vitamin B12 used to be available in the bacteria found on dirty vegetables. We now have a tendency to clean our vegetables so well that they no longer contain the bacteria which use to provide us with vitamin B12. It can be acquired through a supplement.
“Forks over Knives” examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods.” http://www.forksoverknives.com/
The China Study by T. Collin Campbell PhD with Thomas Campbell II, MD
“Forks over Knives” by Monica Beach Media, 96min DVD reports on the work of Dr Campbell and Dr Esselstyn.
Please note if buying from Amazon you may be sent the Region 1 version. You will need to play this on your computer as your normal DVD/TV player may refuse as Australia is Region 4.

Mercury (destroys brain cells – Google – Minamata Disease)
“Pregnant women, women planning pregnancy and young children should limit their intake of shark (flake), broadbill, marlin and swordfish to no more than one serve per fortnight with no other fish to be consumed during that fortnight. For orange roughy (also sold as sea perch) and catfish, the advice is to consume no more than one serve per week, with no other fish being consumed during that week. “ as at September 2011, see the link below.
Also watch the documentary “The Cove” http://www.thecovemovie.com.au/ which exposes the capture and slaughter of thousands of dolphins per year by some Japanese fishermen. The slaughtered dolphins are being sold as whale meat. This meat is contaminated with mercury. Several Japanese scientists who discovered this no longer eat sushi. Ask your dentist not to use Amalgam to fill your teeth. When your old fillings are removed make sure they use a dam to prevent you from swallowing any of the mercury.
Mercury is extremely dangerous, even in very small quantities, as it destroys brain cells.
Salt – Sodium Chloride – NaCl – Sodium
Excess salt is one cause of high blood pressure. When buying processed foods make sure the salt level is less than 120mg per 100g. Unfortunately, this would eliminate most if not all processed foods from your diet. Eating fresh food is best so take control of what you eat and cook it yourself.
Milk and Dairy Products (Liquid Meat)
Why consume the milk of another species? Milk is the perfect food for calves but not for humans.
Milk's calcium is used to negate the acidity caused by the milk's animal protein. Not enough calcium? Then the body uses your bones and your teeth's calcium. Milk does not prevent brittle bones it causes them.
Milk contains growth hormones from the mother cow intend for her calf and also from what the farmer has injected. These growth hormones encourage cancers to grow in our bodies. Milk is made from the blood of the cow. It contains white blood cells to enhance the immune system of her calf. These white blood cells do not help us at all and, in fact, are pus cells. Why are you drinking pus?
Lactose is the sugar in milk. Babies need an enzyme to help digest lactose. Around the age of 2 to 5 years, most babies have lost the ability to produce this enzyme and this is an indication that the babies should have been weaned. Lactose intolerance is normal for everyone above the age of 5 years.
The Milk Documentary: Got the Facts on Milk? DVD Released 31/8/2011. This DVD can be purchased from amazon.com, is region-less and can be played on any DVD player.

Sugar
Sugar contains 50% Glucose and 50% Fructose. The Glucose is Ok but too much of it causes Type 2 Diabetes. Fructose is converted in to Fat and really bad Cholesterol. The typical Western diet has far too much sugar to be healthy. Eliminate sugar from your diet and only consume it through natural whole foods such as fruit. You will lose weight and your cholesterol will fall. Eat avocadoes to increase your good cholesterol levels. Do not use artificial sweeteners. Sugar is addictive and it turns off your ability to say “I have had enough to eat”, so you eat more and more. Check the side panel of processed foods for sugar content. It will shock you.
